“K’cimi i Tropojes is born among the people. It is not a choreographic dancing. We choreographers from Tropoja are very lucky because K’cimi i Tropojes has many different variants, it has many variants in itself and may create different choreographies, like they have been done since the 1970s to nowadays and more in the future due to its rich variations. Because the men’s dancing has its own diversity, its own variants. It is epic. While the girls’ dancing takes variants from all areas of the Tropoja region.”

8. SOUNDBITE (Albanian) Serena Leka, Albanian now a resident in Denmark,
“It was a very nice surprise for us. We leave Albania so many times as we live abroad, and it seemed to us as if we were greeted with the culture of many years ago. It was so nice to see the young generation perform for everyone at the airport terminal with so much desire and goodwill and pleasure, for those leaving and for others arriving. It’s very good work. It has values and traditions which Albania should be grateful for and introduce to the whole world, traditions which those of us living abroad would be very pleased to introduce too.”

As youngsters we are trying to preserve it and pass it from generation to generation. It is a very beautiful mission and an experience that you can hardly describe in words. Many people contributed to get the dancing entered onto the UNESCO (list) and our generation luckily has seen and touched such a beautiful mission. K’cimi i Tropojes is as if you touch the sky with your hand. It’s an emotion. It’s a beautiful feeling. I have no words (to express it). It’s pride.”

Whoever takes more tourists, whoever promotes tourism more, that’s part of marketing. But marketing is not included in UNESCO. It is the dancing, songs, musical instruments and those should be preserved by the government.”
