STORYLINE:
Around 200 protesters chanted and held signs to protest President Donald Trumps cuts to the U.S. Department of Education, as they stood outside one of the department’s buildings Friday in Washington. D.C.
"Let me say to you, Mr. Trump and Mr. Musk, you will not take your wrecking ball to America’s public schools," said said Kim Anderson, executive director of the National Education Association: "We will stand in your way."
Some Education Department employees have left through buyout offers and the termination of probationary employees. After a layoff of 1,300 people announced Tuesday, the department will sit at roughly half the 4,100 it had when President Donald Trump took office.
