STORYLINE:
Israeli authorities have stepped up security measures at the Al-Aqsa Mosque as Palestinian worshippers head into Jerusalem for the second Friday prayers of the holy month of Ramadan.

Israel has allowed men over 55 and women over 50 to come from the West Bank to Jerusalem to perform the prayers.

During the first Friday prayers of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan last week, about 90,000 Palestinians prayed at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem’s Old City under tight security by Israeli forces.

This comes amid rising tensions over ceasefire talks in Gaza.
