US-South Africa relations on thin ice after S. Africa envoy expelled for comments critical of Trump

The US has expelled South Africa’s Ambassador to the US Ebrahim Rasool, after Breitbart News Network reported on his online discussion with a South African think tank, where he asserted that US President Trump is in charge of a supremacist movement. Rasool has been given 72 hours to leave the country. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called Rasool a "race-baiting politician" who hates America and US President Trump. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has called the expulsion “regrettable” and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting ties with the US. Tensions with the US have been high, with Trump recently freezing aid to South Africa.
