2. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Mao Ning, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson:
“Despite multiple warnings from China, Canada has insisted on taking discriminatory and restrictive measures against some Chinese imports, seriously violating WTO (World Trade Organization) rules, disrupting normal trade order, and severely damaging China’s legitimate rights and interests. China’s countermeasures are entirely justified, reasonable, and lawful. We urge Canada to take concrete actions to correct its wrong practices and provide a fair, non-discriminatory, and predictable environment for normal trade and cooperation between the enterprises of the two countries.”

4. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Mao Ning, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson:
“We have noted the relevant reports and congratulate Mr. Carney (Mark Carney, Canada’s next prime minister). Regarding China-Canada relations, China has always advocated developing bilateral relations based on mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit. We hope Canada can maintain an objective and rational understanding of China, pursue a positive and pragmatic policy towards China, and work with China to promote the improvement and development of China-Canada relations.”

6. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Mao Ning, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson:
“Imposing port fees and additional tariffs on cargo-handling equipment is a self-damaging measure that will increase global shipping costs, disrupt the stability of global supply chains, and increase inflationary pressure in the US, harming the interests of American consumers and businesses. And it will not help revive the U.S. shipbuilding industry. We urge the U.S. to respect facts and multilateral rules and immediately stop these wrong practices. China will take necessary measures to defend its legitimate rights and interests.”

8. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Mao Ning, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson:
“We have consistently opposed overstretching the concept of national security and politicizing economic and technological issues. We will firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.”

10. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Mao Ning, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson:
“China is closely following the situation in Syria and is worried about the large number of casualties caused by the armed conflict within Syria. We call on the relevant parties to immediately cease armed conflict and hostile actions, effectively protect the safety of civilians, respect and adhere to the principle of inclusiveness, and find a solution for national reconstruction that aligns with the wishes of the Syrian people through dialogue.”

12. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Mao Ning, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson:
“The 14th Dalai Lama is not purely a religious figure but a political exile engaged in anti-China separatist activities under the guise of religion. China’s position on the Tibet issue is consistent and clear. Whatever the Dalai Lama says or does cannot change the facts of Tibet’s prosperity and development. We hope that relevant parties will not provide a platform for such separatist rhetoric.”
