Philippines ex-President Duterte attends ICC hearing virtually, charged for notorious ‘war on drugs’

Rodrigo Duterte, the former Philippine President, has appeared at the International Criminal Court in the Hague. He’s facing charges of crimes against humanity for his deadly crackdown on drugs. The 79-year old appeared via video link from a detention center. Duterte’s lawyer says was unable to contribute to his hearing due to debilitating medical issues. But the judge said a court doctor found Duterte to be fully mentally aware and fit. A pre-trial hearing date has been set for September. Duterte was arrested in Manila this week and flown to the Netherlands.
