“I think it’s horrendous. I think it’s very barbaric. I mean, I didn’t witness my brother’s execution, but I got to see his body after. I’ve got the autopsy photos of what it looked like, and it’s just mutilated my brother’s body. I think it’s terrible."

"To me it’s it’s it’s revenge. It’s revenge killing. I don’t think the government should have any say in executing our own citizens. I think with modern times, there’s way that we can lock these people up and throw away the key. And in essence, that’s a lot harder than than being executed for a lot of these people."

STORYLINE:
A South Carolina man convicted of murder is scheduled to be executed by firing squad Friday night.
Brad Sigmon beat his ex-girlfriend’s parents with a baseball bat as part of a botched kidnapping plan in 2001. The 67-year-old man will be the first person to die by firing squad in the U.S. since 2010 and just the fourth since the death penalty resumed in the U.S. 49 years ago.
Three volunteer shooters positioned 15 feet away will fire bullets at a target over Sigmon’s heart. The distance is the same as that between the free-throw line to the backboard on a basketball court.
Ronnie Lee Gardner was the last inmate to die by firing squad in 2010 in Utah. His brother, Randy, came to South Carolina on the eve of the state’s scheduled firing squad execution Friday to deliver a message and a petition to South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster. “We delivered 10,000 signatures to the governor’s office," Gardner said. "I personally believe I had. I have pictures of my brother’s body. I wanted the governor to see that. You know, if he’s going to make that decision, you know, he has to know that it’s it’s not it’s not humane at all."
