3. SOUNDBITE (English) Keith Richards, Rolling Stones’ guitarist:
"When the kids were young and I said I’ve got to get the kids out of the New York City before, you know they don’t get any fresh air at all. So we moved up here and ever since then we’ve had, well, we’ve had a great life. The family had a great life. The kids grew up great. I’m incredibly happy about everything, especially things like this, because you don’t get them every day."

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Keith Richards, Rolling Stones’ guitarist:
"You kind of get lost for words or something like this around your neck. (laughs) All I got to say is that I’ve been here for like, yeah, 40 years and and it’s been a great place for me. Brought the kids up here. "

And they say ‘Not nearly enough, governor. You’ve got to do a lot more.’ And I say, ‘Keith, what do I do? What should I do? What should I tell them?’" (Song plays)

"One final thing, Keith, to thank you for this afternoon. An incredible afternoon. We have a special gift for you. If you’re in New York City, they probably give you your own parking spot in Times Square. You probably already have that. If it were Hollywood, you’d probably get a star on the Hollywood Hall of Fame. You probably already have that too. But here in Westport, we have something even more incredible than that and powerful than that and valuable, and that is your own newly minted Westport Library card. Congratulations, Keith."

Governor Ned Lamont presented the Connecticut Governor’s Award of Excellence to the longtime Connecticut resident on Wednesday.

Richards, 81, who has kept a home in the state since 1985, became the first recipient of the Connecticut Governor’s Award of Excellence, receiving a custom-designed medallion and hearty applause from dozens attending the ceremony at the Westport Library.

Gov. Ned Lamont, a Stones fan, praised Richards for his music career and philanthropy to local organizations, and the state’s first lady, Annie Lamont, placed the medallion around his neck.
