(10 May 1971) RR7119A SINO AMERICAN RELATIONS: A NEW BEGINNING
In early 1971, a US table-tennis team got a very warm
reception from Communist Chinese leaders in Peking.
President Nixon responded by relaxing trade and
travel restrictions with China. Nobody knew it at the
time, but this was the start of a process which ended
in America’s diplomatic recognition of Peking and
President Nixon’s visit to China.
