"She has been such a huge champion of this film and this history. You know, her grandparents attended the Indian residential schools here in the United States. And we’re super grateful for her support. She’s obviously a path breaker for our people in this art form."
2. SOUNDBITE (English) Diane Warren, songwriter, nominated for song "The Journey" from "The Six Triple Eight" – on no musical performances at the show:
(Reporter: "What do you think about them not having the songs be part of the show?")
"I’m not… yeah, I don’t understand that. It’s kind of the first year. Well there was a, in 2021 I was nominated as well and they had a free show, which you at least, at least they performed the songs. It was, it was on… I don’t know if anybody really saw it. I don’t know if anybody knew that, but there were technically no songs in there. It would have honestly been, I think people would have loved to have seen her especially. ‘The Journey’ is being used everywhere right now on, you know, it’s a pretty powerful song with what’s going on in the city and in the world right now. So it would have been nice. And Elton John and you know, I think people would like to havs seen these performers, but it wasn’t up to me.
3. SOUNDBITE (English) Trevor Matthews, producer "The Brutalist" – on it being a close race:
"It’s felt like a competition for sure. I mean, we’re all in the race and it’s and it’s and that makes it exciting for sure."

Alexander: "In some regard, yeah. You know, like we would love to share the stage with Elton John and so forth. But what’s a performance if it’s not for people to share it or, or what’s a song if it like ears can’t hear it? And so we heard they wanted to honor people that were affected by the fires. And we were here while it was happening. So we’re about people and whichever way we can elevate people’s humanity and human experience we’re all about."
5. SOUNDBITE (English) Ethan Slater, actor "Wicked" – on rights:
"I can’t speak to what’s going to happen in terms of banning movies, but I think it is a really powerful message about the way that people use fear to control and strip away the rights of others. And in this case, it’s the wizards stripping away the rights of the animals of Oz. And I think, you know, it’s not on the nose in some ways and yet it’s really powerful and poignant message. And God, I hope it doesn’t get banned because stories like that are important to make sure that we stop that from happening."
6. SOUNDBITE (English) Brendan Bellomo, director of best documentary nominee "Porcelain War" – on Trump this week and how film helpful protect culture:
"I can say this – what happened recently in the Oval Office, as somebody that spent the last three years helping my friends and the people of Ukraine share their story with the world, it was very difficult to watch. But we’re focussed here on the film, which is bringing the story of the power of art and cinema that can enable us to connect and hold the front line of democracy by protecting our culture all over the world."
