EU leaders have held crisis talks in Brussels in the wake of Washington’s pivot away from its transatlantic partners. The extraordinary European summit came almost a week after a heated exchange between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House exposed the growing rift between the US and its allies for all the world to see. EU Commssion President Ursula von der Leyen is proposing a joint procurement fund and changes to fiscal rules that could unlock up to 800 Billion Euros of extra military spending.
