STORYLINE:
Exiled Tibetan Buddhist monks ushered in the first day of the Tibetan New Year or Losar by holding ritual prayers on the terrace of the Tsuglakhang temple in Dharamshala on Friday.
Monks played drums and cymbals, some blew horns and conch shells, while others chanted prayers.
They wore yellow ceremonial hats of the Gelug school of the Tibetan Buddhism for some rituals.
Novice monks distributed tea and sweetened rice during a break in the two-hour-long prayer ceremony.
