"Yusuf was admitted to the nursery unit due to a drop in his temperature. He entered intensive care again with a severe drop in his temperature. He arrived at the hospital (his body) was completely blue and his temperature was very low. His temperature was 30. We are talking about about seven or eight degrees below the normal range."

"At dawn today, unfortunately, the baby girl Sham, two months old, died, due to a severe drop in temperature. Sham was not suffering from any diseases, or problems in the heart or respiratory system, but she was in a tent, which led to a severe drop in her temperature and this led to her death."

9. SOUNDBITE (Arabic) Yusuf al Shinbari, father of baby who died due to the cold:
"At 12 o’clock, I woke up to check on all the children. I checked on these two and they were warm, but their hands were cold. I covered them, and went to see the girl. I felt her and found her frozen, cold, and bleeding from her nose. I unbuttoned her clothes and patted her, but there was no breath or heartbeat."

"These children came from outside the hospital, they came from camps and refugee schools, where there is extreme cold and no means of heating. There is no fuel, no electricity, no gas, no means of heating, and they and the family were exposed to extreme cold."

"Unfortunately, of the nine cases, we lost five. One case was 15 days old. An hour after arriving at the hospital, she died. The second case died after 8 hours, and cases died four to five days later."

At least six infants have died from hypothermia in the last two weeks in the Gaza Strip, where hundreds of thousands of people are living in tent camps and war-damaged buildings during a fragile ceasefire, Palestinian medics said Tuesday.
