STORYLINE:
Peru’s Defense Minister Walter Astudillo said Saturday that six people had died after a roof collapsed in the food court of a shopping mall in northwestern Peru, while 78 people were injured.
The heavy metal structure of the Real Plaza shopping mall in the city of Trujillo fell on Friday night on dozens of people who were dining there.
The minister said at a press conference that according to firefighters, five people died on the spot and the remaining one in the hospital to which he had been taken.
Thirty people have already been discharged and 48 remain hospitalized under medical care.
The Peruvian Public Prosecutor’s Office said that it is already investigating any possible criminal aspect of the incident.
