They are held in the Federation of Russia itself, and they are just detained because they did their job. That shouldn’t be the case and they should be released."

"What we will see from the Trump administration is outrageous and we need to, you know, have more journalism, I guess, given the amount of lies that circulating. This idea that (Ukrainian President, Volodymyr) Zelenskyy would be a dictator without elections and that Ukraine would have started the war, that’s preposterous. And obviously, journalists are eager to establish the facts. So, we need more facts, we need more journalism."

“There’s a suitcase and behind me, the symbolic coffin of Victoria Roshchyna, the 27-year-old journalist who died last autumn. Her parents received a letter with a coat of arms from the Russian Ministry of Defence announcing their daughter’s death. The body has still not been returned. Why is this?"

STORYLINE:
Mock coffins were laid out in a square in Paris on Thursday during a protest calling for the release of 19 Ukrainian journalist detained by Russia.
Behind the coffins, laid out during the demonstration by members of Reporters Without Borders, a banner read, "A Ukrainian journalist died in prison in Russia, 19 are still locked up there. Do we have to wait for them to die before acting?"
Thibaut Bruttin, General Director of Reporters Without Borders, addressed the crowd, emphasizing the urgent need for action to free those detained.
"We need to talk about them," Bruttin told The Associated Press.
Bruttin also criticized U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comments about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Trump falsely blamed Ukraine for starting the war that has cost tens of thousands of Ukrainian lives, causing outrage and alarm in a country that has spent nearly three years fighting back a much larger Russian military.
Trump called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “a dictator without elections” and claimed his support among voters was near rock-bottom.
Zelenskyy said Wednesday that the disinformation is coming from Russia, and some of what Trump has said does echo Russia’s own narrative of the conflict.
