1. Various STILL images of Mayor Eric Adams departing court after federal court hearing
2. SOUNDBITE (English) Jake Offenhartz, The Associated Press:
“A federal judge declined Wednesday to immediately dismiss the corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams, saying he wanted to carefully review the Justice Department’s, quote ‘unusual move to halt the prosecution.’ During the 80-minute hearing, the judge pressed the Acting Deputy Attorney General, Emil Bove, on the government’s rationale for dropping the case, namely that it was impeding Adams from aiding in President Trump’s immigration crackdown. Bove admitted he could not think of another example of a public official avoiding charges because of their government responsibilities. But he said the order was quote, ‘virtually unreviewable by the court.’ The move to drop the bribery charges against Adams has roiled both his administration and the Justice Department, after the former top federal prosecutor in Manhattan alleged the two had struck a quid pro quo. Adams has emphatically denied that, insisted that he will continue running for office. On Wednesday, he swore under oath that he was not promised anything and was not threatened by the Justice Department.”

STORYLINE:
A Justice Department official has pointed to sworn statements New York City Mayor Eric Adams made at a court hearing to urge a federal judge to quickly agree that corruption charges against him can be dismissed.
Judge Dale E. Ho ended Wednesday’s hearing by saying he wouldn’t “shoot from the hip” but hoped to resolve the matter quickly.
Adams told him under oath that nothing had been promised to get him to agree that dismissed charges could be restored after this year’s mayoral election. The dismissal request came Friday.
A government lawyer defended it, citing an executive order by President Donald Trump.
Manhattan’s top federal prosecutor resigned after she refused an order to do so.
