"Well, I actually went yesterday to the store and was literally shocked to see the dozen of eggs at $9.26 and Costco had them about $24, $25 for a flat. And I mean, it’s literally shocking."

"I mean, I’m a big egg eater, so it kind of hits our pocket a little more. It’s not just the price that goes up but also the the scarcity of them. This is the first time I’ve seen eggs at this tent and market and I’ve been coming here for four weeks now in a row. So it was nice to actually get some eggs and everything. But the price when I’m here I mean, versus the store and the quality is is worth it."

STORYLINE:
Egg prices have reached a record high in the U.S. The consumer price index released confirmed what consumers, bakers and food companies already knew: an ongoing bird flu outbreak that began in 2022 are making eggs terribly expensive right now.
Produce stands at the West Palm Beach Green Market often have eggs available but say it’s getting harder to stock. And when they have the product, prices are at a premium.
The average price of a dozen Grade A eggs in U.S. cities reached $4.95 in January, eclipsing the previous record of $4.82 set in January 2023. Of course, that is only the nationwide average.
A carton of eggs can cost $10 or more in some places. And specialized varieties, such as organic and cage-free eggs, are even more expensive.
