STORYLINE:
It is not an uncommon story at the border.
He is from the north, she is from the south.
She is American, he is Mexican.
If one partner does not have the required documentation to enter the United States legally, couples can still get married at the border crossing.
Under Texas state law, if the wedding takes place on the border bridge, the marriage is valid in the United States.
On Friday, Valentine’s Day, two couples tied the knot at the international bridge.
Mónica Robles, US citizen, and Ramiro Seañez, Mexican, was one of them.
They were introduced by his mother in Chaparral, New Mexico.
Despite Seañez being deported to Mexico five years ago, the couple kept their relationship going.
For Robles, it was a particularly special day. She had always hoped to get married on February 14th, Valentine’s Day.
With the couple now legally married, Seañez plans to start the immigration process.
They don’t know how long it will take, but they hope that Ramiro will soon be able to return to the United States.
