It was criminalized here to wear clothes of the opposite sex in everyday life until 2010 in most of the country. Therefore, of course, I’m worried that there are young people, girls, boys, and teenagers who think they are going to grow up in immense loneliness where there are no other peers, where no one can listen to them."

STORYLINE:
En 2012 el Estado argentino reconoció, a través de una ley, el derecho a la identidad y el acceso a la salud integral de la comunidad transgénero y travesti, históricamente postergada. Pero el presidente Javier Milei, a través de un decreto, acaba de restringir a mayores de 18 años los alcances de la Ley de Identidad de Género. Esto significa que los menores de edad ya no podrán rectificar sus documentos ni acceder a la atención médica de afirmación de género.
Los 2.000 niños y adolescentes que modificaron nombres y género del documento de identidad desde la sanción de la ley en 2012 no se verán afectados por la resolución. Sin embargo, los que no hayan cumplido los 18 años no podrán continuar con los tratamientos específicos en hospitales públicos y privados.
Según el Censo de población de 2022, casi 200.000 personas dentro de una población de 46 millones no se identificaron con el sexo registrado al nacer. De esa cifra, 72.510 personas declararon ser “varón transgénero”, 60.679 “mujer transgénero/travesti”, 37.330 “no binarios”, y 26.437 respondió “otra/ninguna de las anteriores opciones”.
El Ejecutivo también prohibió a los menores de edad la rectificación registral del sexo y el cambio de nombre de pila e imagen.
