"President (Donald) Trump is committed to ending what is the worst tragedy (the war) that I have seen in my adult life very quickly. And he is working with all sides. President Zelenskyy will be meeting with Vice President (JD) Vance, Secretary (Marco) Rubio in Munich. In the meantime, the government will review this document (potential new economic deal). We think the document is very important. The United States and Ukraine, we have shared values, we have shared security. And we would like to further intertwine our shared economics."

4. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukrainian President:
"Putin does not want to end the war. If Ukraine was in NATO, its army would be equal to Russia’s. It’s just about one and a half million, that is, 220 brigades, which are in Russia, and we have 110 combat brigades. That’s all, it’s simple math. And in Europe, I was talking about this recently, there are about 80 functioning, maybe 82 combat brigades, that’s all. Russia, if there is no Ukraine tomorrow, will go to Europe and occupy it."
5. Putin and Bessent leaving
STORYLINE:
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent discussed a potential economic cooperation agreement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on Wednesday, that U.S. President Donald Trump is pushing for as part of the foundation for a larger peace deal.
Earlier in the day, Trump said, “We’re asking for security of our money.”
The president said he would send more aid to Ukraine, “but we want it secured.”
Bessent was dispatched to Ukraine to get written assurances that the U.S. would get access to the country’s rare earth elements, oil and gas.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting with Zelenskyy, Bessent acknowledged that the U.S. and Ukraine "have shared security" and "would like to further intertwine our shared economics."
