2. SOUNDBITE (English) Judge Nicholas Primm:
"You know, this is not the typical case. In an ordinary case, the defendant is given a bond. He makes the bond. He returns to the community essentially unnoticed by anyone. That’s not what would happen here. This case is an open sore. It’s a wound that continues to hurt the community."
3. UPSOUND (English) Prosecutor speaking during hearing:
"The seriousness of the offense and the penalty of those offenses. So if the court were to grant Bond again, we’re asking that you not. But if you were, he’s charged with murder in the second degree, two counts, we would ask for the bond to be $100,000 per count, a total of $200,000."
4. SOUNDBITE (English) Judge Nicholas Primm:
"And were he to be convicted of these 29 charges, he faces the prospect of the rest of his life in prison. And that is something I’m allowed to consider. So weighing all of these considerations, I believe that it is, one, required to give a bond. But two, given the extraordinary nature of the case and the other factors that it needs to be a high bond, I’m going to grant a half a million dollar bond necessary to ensure that Mr. Grant appears at trial. I’m going to require 10% of that be a cash bond. As a condition of bond, he’s to have no contact with any of the witnesses whatsoever."

STORYLINE:
A judge has granted a $500,000 bond for the father of a 14-year-old boy who is accused of a deadly mass shooting at a Georgia high school.

It’s a rare case of a parent being charged after a school shooting.

A judge granted the bond after a Tuesday court hearing.

The father, Colin Gray, has pleaded not guilty to 29 charges. They include two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of involuntary manslaughter.

The 54-year-old father and his son, Colt Gray, were both indicted in the Sept. 4 shooting.

Two students and two teachers at Apalachee High School in Winder were killed.
