"I think the most important thing is to communicate our position clearly and explain to the American side that its support, of our Ukrainian position, lies within the national interests of the United States of America. Why? Because a just peace will give the opportunity to President Trump to say that he has achieved a result. And that’s when he will be able to say that he is really a political person, a leader, who has achieved lasting peace. Because you can make a deal even tomorrow. The question is for how long will it live? And who and how will fulfill it. If it is unjust, no one will follow it."

"There is no American position yet. And this is evident from everything we hear and see now. Therefore, I think that at this stage, the main goal of Ukrainian foreign policy is to form this position, or rather, more precisely, to help the Trump team to form the very position."

"When Trump was a presidential candidate, it was easy for him to say that he could solve the issue under 24 hours. Well, 24 hours has already passed many times, and the issue has not been resolved. Now there are a hundred days. Will it be enough? It depends on the goal. If the contacts will be intense and if we, I mean Ukraine, the United States of America, Europe, the United Kingdom, formulate a common position – then it is possible."

STORYLINE:
Former Ukrainian foreign minister Volodymyr Ohryzko says he believes that the US has not decided on a plan to resolve the war yet and this week’s diplomatic meetings will be key to ensuring that the new administration understands Kyiv’s position.

Speaking in Kyiv, Ohryzko who served as foreign minister from 2007-2009 said “I think that at this stage, the main goal of Ukrainian foreign policy is to form this position, or rather, more precisely, to help the Trump team to form the very position.”

Ohryzko’s comments came during a key week of diplomacy for Ukraine.

International efforts are afoot to stop the fighting, with President Donald Trump’s senior advisers expected to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later this week on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference to discuss a path toward ending the war.

Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine and Russia, are among the U.S. administration officials traveling to Germany for the summit.

He added that a “just peace” would allow Trump to say he had got a result.
