"And finally on international relations, I have shared with President (Recep Tayyip Erdogan) his concerns about Romania and the development in Myanmar. We preach our initiative with various colleagues around ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations). We’ll be able to secure lasting peace and security and justice in Myanmar but, more pressing of course, the reconstruction of Gaza and Palestine. Turkey has showed the leadership, as we know, they have sent 100 ships of equipment and support for humanitarian assistance, which is spectacular, which is not done by any other country as I know. And we will of course, continue to do our bit using the facilities mainly in Turkey, Qatar and Egypt for now."

"But as I mentioned to the President, we will of course support the Japanese initiative to set up a fund for the reconstruction of Gaza. They are chairing, they’ve asked us to co-chair, what is called East Asia Reconstruction Plan for Gaza and Palestine."

STORYLINE:
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated on Tuesday that Malaysia and Turkey have agreed to strengthen their relationship after meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Putrajaya.

Ibrahim and Erdogan oversaw the signing of 11 documents to enhance bilateral ties, including a number of memorandums of understanding in several fields, including energy, industry, technology, communications systems, audiovisual media services and information.

On Gaza, Ibrahim praised Turkey’s "spectacular" initiative in leading reconstruction and humanitarian assistance.

The Malaysian leader also said Malaysia will be co-chairing the East Asia Reconstruction Plan for Gaza and Palestine, alongside Japan.

The Turkish president is on a four-day tour of Malaysia, Indonesia and Pakistan.
