Washington – 11 February 2025
1. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. Byron Donalds, (R) Florida:
“Well, I think the president just wants to get the agenda through. And he wants to get it through as quickly as we can deliver it. And there’s a lot of, a lot of work my colleagues just have to focus on, and I think we’re starting to get there.”

2. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. Byron Donalds, (R) Florida:
“I understand the speaker’s desire for one bill. I get it. But there’s this thing called time and reality. And the reality is, Tom Homan needs all the resources. The president campaigned on, on repatriating illegals back to their home countries. You need resources to do that. And we have to respond and provide those resources.”

3. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. Byron Donalds, (R) Florida:
“First of all, tax cuts, in my view, are not a cost driver. What tax policy is, is about getting revenue to the Treasury. In Washington speak, we say tax cuts cost us money. No tax policy brings money in and current tax laws brought in more money than any other tax policy. So, if we extend it, how does that cost us money? It is illogical in the real world. Only makes sense here in Washington. Number two, when it comes to spending, we have to bend the cost curve of our nation. Joe Biden massively expanded. We cannot continue that. And if we do, the bond market is going to start charging us more money, which crowds out investment in our economy and actually will raise costs for consumers over the long term. So it’s not an either or. You need sound tax policy to bring the revenue, but you have to cut spending in order to cut our borrowing so our borrowings will become more expensive.”

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. Ralph Norman, (R) South Carolina:
“We’ve got the most legitimate bare bones cuts, which is what we promised the American people than any plan out there. Senate had a lot of, space hadn’t been filled in, numbers hadn’t been included. We met with senators last night, and I don’t mind putting it up. It’s up to us. Spending starts with the house, and we got to put our budget up. It’s late, but it is what it is.”

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Rep. Ralph Norman, (R) South Carolina:
(Reporter: Do you think they should comply with those court orders?)
“Trump?”
(Reporter:  Yeah.)
“With his executive orders? No. He’s got the right to do that. And the American people are with him. With him all along. Everything he’s promised he’s delivered.”
(Reporter: So he should just ignore the courts if they say, do something.)
“He’s doing everything within his power that he couldn’t do the first time. He’s doing it this time. The executive orders are part of it and the American people love it.”

STORYLINE:
House Republicans have missed another deadline to produce a massive budget package of tax cuts and slashed spending.

Instead, Senate Republicans on Friday jumped ahead, unveiling a more tailored $340 billion blueprint focused on President Donald Trump’s deportation agenda and bolstered U.S. defense spending.

At stake is the Republican president’s priority legislation that includes some $4 trillion in tax breaks, massive program cuts and a possible extension of the nation’s debt limit.

Meetings between the chambers continued on Tuesday.

Rep. Byron Donalds, (R) Florida, said the resources need to be approved so the president can follow through this his agenda.
