The Munich Security Conference comes to an end today after a dramatic three days that showed fundamental rifts between the US and the EU.
US Vice-President JD Vance accused European leaders of retreating from their values and ignoring voter concerns on migration and free speech. Vance’s speech came after President Donald Trump blindsided allies in possible Ukraine peace negotiations, by holding unilateral talks with Russian president Vladimir Putin. It is likely to be remembered as the week that fundamentally altered the transatlantic alliance, and reestablished US ties to Russia.
