1. Various of the painting “Melancholy”
2. Various of the painting “Despair”
3. Various of the painting “Young Girls on a Bridge”
4. SOUNDBITE (Italian) Costantino D’Orazio, curator of the exhibition:
“When Munch died, he left 28,000 works to the city of Oslo, which then created the museum dedicated to him in 1963. There is a very complex summary of these works here, because it is possible to trace Munch’s entire life and career, focusing mainly on the themes that always accompanied him. Munch wrote ‘I do not paint what I see but what I have seen’, so every image we observe is actually the result of a memory, of something he experienced but filtered through his emotions. Here is a complete (retrospective) of Munch, from his youth to his later years.”

5. Various of the painting “Starry night”
6. Various of the painting “Death Struggle”
7. Various of ‘The Scream’, a lithograph from 1895, one of the versions of his most famous work
8. SOUNDBITE (Italian) Costantino D’Orazio, curator of the exhibition:
“Undoubtedly Munch is the artist of the emotions, the one who understood how to take those theories that psychoanalysis was experimenting with, there is a lot of Freund within his work, and how to translate the mechanisms of our mind, such as removal, into images. Often (we see this) in his paintings, such as ‘Death in the Sickroom’. We know that we are witnessing a moment when a family has gathered around a dying person but we don’t see the dying person, the protagonist of the painting, because often our memories remove our pain. This is the common thread of his storytelling and his way of constructing images.”

9. Various of the painting “Death in the Sickroom”
10. Wide of the paintings “Self-Portrait against a Green Background / Tulla Larsen” and “The death of Marat”
11. Various of the painting “Self-Portrait against a Green Background / Tulla Larsen”
12. SOUNDBITE (English) Patricia G. Berman, curator of the exhibition:
“These 100 exceptional works from the Munch museum trace the life and experimentation of this artist who started to produce works when he was a late teenager and never stopped, literally until the day he died. And he was experimental in all aspects of painting and printmaking. We are able to watch as he develops, a bit of a chronology. The second thing is that he was impassioned about trying to explain how the eye works and how memory always affects what we see. Memory, emotions, the sounds from the exterior shape vision. And in doing that he was at one with the development of perspectival psychology. So we also get to see how this artist experimented with our literal ways of seeing the world, and in doing that he helped to show us a world that we may already see and experience, but we didn’t really have words for, before he showed us.”

13. Various of the painting “Evening, Melancholy”
14. Various of the painting “Self-Portrait. Between the Clock and the Bed”
