STORYLINE:
Author Salman Rushdie has taken the stand in a New York courtroom to testify against the man charged with stabbing him in a frenzied knife attack.
Hadi Matar is charged with attempted murder and assault for attacking Rushdie as he was preparing to give a speech in August 2022.
Authorities say Matar stabbed Rushdie more than a dozen times, leaving the 77-year-old author blind in one eye. Matar has pleaded not guilty.
Rushdie testified Tuesday that he really noticed his assailant’s eyes, which he described as dark and ferocious. Rushdie spent months recovering, a process he detailed in a memoir.
The trial will last up to two weeks, the lawyers said.
