"I accidentally found a link to this festival and I was very interested in this event, I wanted to try myself in the character, overall it’s a very interesting idea that such a festival was organized. It was interesting to come and see, to experience the atmosphere of the 1950s."

STORYLINE:
Muscovites, decked out in U.S.-inspired outfits from the 1950s, danced the afternoon away in a Moscow park on Saturday.
The festival program included dancing, master classes on the twist, fashion shows and performances by cover bands.
The park has organized zones with beauty salons offering Stilyagi themed styling and makeup, while in the clothing zone visitors could decorate their clothes with prints, paint, spray cans, patches etc.
"It was interesting to come and see, to experience the atmosphere of the 1950s," one of the festival visitors told The Associated Press.
The event was started after the release in 2008 of a hit film called Stilyagi, or Hipsters.
The film, set in 1950s Moscow, follows a group of Soviet citizens who were inspired by contemporary US fashion and explores their struggle for self-expression in the repressive Soviet Union.
The weekend event, celebrating US culture, comes at a time of heightened tensions between Russia and the West over Moscow’s military campaign in neighbouring Ukraine.
