"So Troy (Trombone Shorty) he told me, he said, you know, ‘I want to play it. I want to I really..’ when he got the call, he was excited about being able to play the trombone for that particular song, ‘America the Beautiful.’ He was like, ‘But I don’t want to sing it. I want you to sing it.’ And to be invited, you know, that was such an honor. It was just — I remember feeling like, this is so beautiful because it’s so holistic. It’s true friendship. And getting to represent that on the stage is quite an honor."

"I feel like the Super Bowl came in and amplified what was here, what was already here. That’s what makes this such a passion-filled experience. It’s because New Orleans has always had culture. We’ve always had music, We’ve always had food. We’ve always had color. Just drive down the streets, look at the architecture. The color is everywhere. So for the Super Bowl to come in and see that and the words of that and how it connects people and brings people together, I love that they brought just such an emphasis to what we have already had here for decades and decades, for centuries before, you know. And they really highlighted that and amplified it."

"You embrace them. I think when you get into nerves and things like that, it’s because you’re trying to control the butterflies. If you just embrace the butterflies and say, ‘this is just a part of the moment, it’s a part of the experience,’ then you actually let those butterflies fly through you. You know, you let them land into your performance and people will feel that in the room. They feel that that joy, they feel that excitement and it connects with people."
