2. SOUNDBITE (English) Ben Chaplin and Peter Sarsgaard, actors:
(Reporter: "Okay, so when I was watching, I was like, this feels like the epitome of actors being able to try out different jobs. You got to be broadcast journalists or working in that sphere. How was that for you guys?")
Sarsgaard: "Whenever I play another job, I’m reminded at the end about how terrible I would be at anything except for acting. I think like in the beginning I think, ‘I could do this. I could be a prosecuting attorney.’ And then by the end, I think, like right, ‘But like 60 hours a week. Sometimes 70?’ No. And I’m not very good at like, preparing anything or anything like that. I think one of the great parts about being an actor is you prepare…"
Chaplin: "It’s all blag."
Sarsgaard: "..but then all the preparation is just gone. I mean, it’s there some other way, but like in the moment, you kind of embrace not being prepared in a way or not."
Chaplin: "Yeah, you kind of have to because it wouldn’t be an issue to them, right? It’s like the old argument of I’m not going to wear underpants because they didn’t have underpants in that period, right? No. Well, but yeah, but you’ll be really aware of not having underpants against the itchy wool. Right? Whereas if you wear underpants, you won’t be aware that you’re wearing underpants. That’s kind of what they would have been like. It’s sort of like that If you’re going to pretend to be an expert at something – best do very little."
