STORYLINE:
Hamas’ al- Qassam Brigades on Tuesday held a funeral for Ghazi Abu Tamaa, their weapons and combat services commander, who was killed during Israel’s 16-month-war in the Gaza Strip.
AP footage showed al-Qassam fighters riding in multiple vehicles, raising their rifles in tribute and playing music in his honor while carrying a poster bearing his image.
The group’s spokesperson Abu Obeida confirmed Abu Tamaa’s death as well as the death of senior leader Mohammed Deif in a video statement on Thursday.
The spokesperson didn’t provide details about their deaths.
Multiple people fired shots in the air as others carried his casket to a courtyard.
Relatives gathered around his casket as they cried and prayed for him, bidding him farewell.
