STORYLINE:
The family of Israeli hostage Ofer Kalderon cheered as they watched coverage of his release after 15 months of captivity in the Gaza Strip on Saturday.

Kalderon, 54, and Yarden Bibas, 35, were handed over to the Red Cross by Hamas militants in Khan Younis before they were brought back to a military base in Israel.

Also Saturday, Hamas handed over Keith Siegel, 65, to the Red Cross at a separate exchange in Gaza City.

Kalderon’s cousin, Yael Kalderon, said it had been "impossible" to live without him since he was among those captured during the October 7, 2023, attack which ignited the war in Gaza.

Another cousin, Eyal Kalderon, called on the Israeli government to secure the release of all hostages and bring them home alive.

The current truce, which began Jan. 19, is aimed at winding down the deadliest and most destructive war ever fought between Israel and the Hamas militant group.

The fragile deal has held for nearly two weeks, halting the fighting and allowing for increased aid to flow into the tiny coastal territory.
