(14 Oct 1972) RR7241A USA SKYLAB AMERICA’S SPACE LABORATORY
When Apollo 17 sets off for the Moon in early December 1972 it will bring the current series of American moon missions to an end. Despite the triumphant achievements of the programme, NASA has had its budget curtailed and attention is now being diverted to other space projects. One of the most important is Skylab, the bid to place a manned space laboratory into orbit around the earth. This will be of enormous value to Scientists, especially those whose job it is to understand earth’s weather, tides and vegetation. It will also provide a zero-gravity environment for all sorts of new industrial processes. This report explains how.
