"We are all saddened, but this is also just bringing the solidarity of the figure skating community together. So yesterday, for example, we had at the European Championship, we observed a moment of silence and also some of the skaters dedicated their program, some of the skaters, including Adam Siao Him Fa, a prominent male skater, he dedicated his program to his colleagues from the U.S., respecting and honoring the loss of their lives."

"Well, at the moment we want to focus on mourning those who lost their lives and also provide support for the ones who lost their loved ones, and that’s what we want to take our focus on and we’ll take one step at a time. "He (Dick Button) left a great footstep in our lives and not only in figure skating but in sports generally. He was not only the twice-in-a-row Olympic champion, multiple world champion, U.S champion, but he was much, much, greater than a great skater. He was an innovator, pioneer, he did many things for the first time, including the first to do a triple jump and he innovated the flying camel spin."

STORYLINE:
International Skating Union President Jae Youl Kim held back tears on Friday as he said his organization will seek to honor athletes and others killed in the mid-air collision between a passenger jet and Army helicopter near Washington, D.C., when Boston hosts the world championships in March.
Skaters, their coaches and family members on their way back from a national skating camp in Wichita, Kansas, were among those who died.
They included two teenage skaters, their mothers and two coaches who were part of the Skating Club of Boston, which is hosting the championships.
“It’s really shocking – cannot find words to describe the sadness that we are going through," said Kim, speaking on the sidelines of the European Figure Skating Championships in Tallinn, Estonia.
Kim said skaters including European champion Adam Siao Him Fa of France had dedicated programs at European championships to victims of the mid-air collision near Washington, D.C.
At one point during the interview Kim became visibly emotional and paused to fight back tears as he told The Associated Press about the impact of the crash on the skating community.
“At the moment we want to focus on mourning those who lost their lives and also provide support for the ones who lost their loved ones,” Kim said.
