6. SOUNDBITE (English) Mustafa Barghouti, activist:
"This demonstration shows that all of the Palestinian people refuse completely the proposals of President Trump to transfer Palestinians to Jordan and Egypt. Such a call is nothing but participation in a war crime. The war crime of ethnic cleansing. It is absolutely rejected by all Palestinians, by Egypt and by Jordan. So such a call will not succeed. We advise that President Trump would retract his statements because if he wants to get a Nobel Peace Prize, he will get only the title of being a participant in a war crime — a war crime of ethnic cleansing that Palestinians would never allow. "

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Mustafa Barghouti, activist:
"Of course, (Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel) Smotrich and all other fascist ministers in the Israeli government are welcoming such statements because it fulfils what they have failed to achieve by force, by bombardment, which is the transfer of Palestinian people and the ethnic cleansing of Gaza. They have failed. And any political manoeuvre, all political manoeuvres today will not help them succeed in what they have failed in."

STORYLINE:
Dozens of Palestinians gathered in Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank, on Wednesday to protest against recent comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump.
On Saturday, Trump said he would like to see Jordan, Egypt and other Arab nations increase the number of Palestinian refugees they are accepting from the Gaza Strip, potentially moving out enough of the population to “just clean out” the war-torn area to create a virtual clean slate.
"Such a call is nothing but participation in a war crime," said activist Mustafa Barghouti who too part in the demonstration in Ramallah.
"It is absolutely rejected by all Palestinians, by Egypt and by Jordan. So such a call will not succeed."
Jordan and Egypt have rejected the idea.
Both countries along with the Palestinians, worry that Israel would never allow them to return to Gaza once they have left.
Fighting that broke out in the territory after ruling Hamas attacked Israel in October 2023 is paused due to a fragile ceasefire, but much of Gaza’s population has been left largely homeless by an Israeli military campaign.
Egypt and Jordan have made peace with Israel but support the creation of a Palestinian state in the occupied West Bank, Gaza and east Jerusalem, territories that Israel captured in the 1967 Mideast War.
They fear that the permanent displacement of Gaza’s population could make that impossible.
