STORYLINE:
Displaced Palestinians continued returning to their homes in northern Gaza on Wednesday after Israel lifted its closure of the north days earlier.
Crowds of people have made the arduous journey back to the heavily destroyed north since Israel allowed their return on Monday morning.
Many Palestinians said they were happy to return, even though their homes in northern Gaza are likely damaged or destroyed.
Others have said the feeling was bittersweet, as nearly everyone has friends or relatives killed by Israel during the 15-month war against Hamas.
A ceasefire aimed at ending the war has allowed the displaced residents to return and is also set to see the release of dozens of hostages and hundreds of Palestinians imprisoned or detained by Israel.
