"So somehow when I’m thinking about the collection, which also looks a little dystopian, like all the buildings that you see in the collection, there are actually cities which are left without humans, where the liveable conditions are no longer there. So that’s how they all are dark."

"So this somehow looks at all the problems, all the pertinent problems, the global warming related to climate change, which we are seeing today and then how nature would start rebuilding herself. So this collection somehow is a bit of storytelling of what is happening on the planet. So that’s why I call it the Pale Blue Dot, it’s an apt name."

STORYLINE:
Rahul Mishra showed a very personal, and symbolic, space age collection at Paris Fashion Week.
A month after the death of his father, the designer found himself looking to Hindu scripture and an essay about humans’ place in the cosmos for his spring collection.
Inspired by an essay called "Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space" from astronomer Carl Sagan, Mishra considered memories of his family and the meaning of life in a vast universe.
Sagan was heard speaking over the soundtrack of the catwalk show, while models appeared to be beamed onto the catwalk as sparkling structural cape swept along the catwalk.
Speaking after the fashion show, Mishra said it’s a timely theme.
"This somehow looks at all the problems, all the pertinent problems, the global warming related to climate change, which we are seeing today and then how nature would start rebuilding herself. So this collection somehow is a bit of storytelling of what is happening on the planet. So that’s why I call it the Pale Blue Dot, it’s an apt name."
Textured, angular architectural shapes were constructed from a twinkling black palate, perfect to outfit sci-fi royalty ruling some distant planet.
Birds were also incorporated as one look flew slowly down the catwalk, the model surrounded by face framing halo of glittering crows, elsewhere a series of gold gowns glowed.
Folds, pleats and oversized sculpted shoulders created couture spacesuits, dresses were accessorized with cities of skyscrapers and reflective discs shone like planets.
