8. SOUNDBITE (Hebrew) Hananel Gabay, guide and Sderot resident:
"Already the intentions of our neighbours from Gaza were made clear, without any doubt, and I am not ready to put my children to sleep near the lion’s cage anymore. We want real security, and at the same time we also want all our brothers back with us (referring to the hostages). We don’t want to travel on a protected train, we don’t want to rely on this means or another – real security, and to hurt our enemies where it hurts them, to take territory. If there is an area that threatens the train, please, if it is possible to establish a settlement and stream, that’s a good idea".
9. Couple looking across at Gaza
10. SOUNDBITE (Hebrew) Shlomo (no family name given), from Akko, Israel:
"It is a big mistake to return now (referring to Palestinians returning to northern Gaza) after we have 300, 400 soldiers that were killed in the occupation of this strip. This time we have to do all the destruction from the air, with cannons and with airplanes. Put in troops, as little as possible there. There are no innocents in Gaza, there are no innocents in Gaza. We saw them with the return of the hostages, we saw when they gave them back, how many cheers and how much they beat them before they went up there (to the Red Cross car). Here we need an all-out war to destroy all of Gaza and turn it into a ghost town".
11. Wide of destruction in Gaza
12. SOUNDBITE (Hebrew) Avi Shukrun, from central Israel:
"We must bring our captives, and let’s say that we didn’t manage for more than a year and four months to bring them (back). So we have no other way, we have to do everything, first of all, to bring our hostages back. What will happen next? That’s a different question, but certainly it is not what it used to be. It’s not a thing (possibility) for an Arab to reach the fence (border), it’s not going to happen."
13. Various of destruction in Gaza
14. SOUNDBITE (English) Rachel Osher, from Jerusalem:
"Let them come back home safely and conduct a normal life. We also want it. We want the same on both sides of the border."
15. Various of large convoy of trucks returning from the Gaza Strip after having delivered aid
STORYLINE:
In the city of Sderot, the closest Israeli city to the Gaza border, Israelis gave their reaction to news that an agreement had been reached to release an Israeli civilian hostage and allow Palestinians to return to northern Gaza.
Mediator Qatar said Hamas will hand over the civilian hostage, Arbel Yehoud, along with two other hostages before Friday.
The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that Palestinians can move north on Monday.
Israel’s military said people can start crossing on foot.
At a lookout point over the border into Gaza, the destruction is clearly visible, less than a mile away.
For some, as thousands of Palestinians head north after waiting for days to cross from southern Gaza, security is still a major concern.
Hananel Gabay, a guide and Sderot citizen, said he was not ready to put his "children to sleep near the lion’s cage anymore."
Shlomo, who came to look at Gaza with his wife, believes Israel needs "an all-out war to destroy all of Gaza."
