No survivors expected from Washington DC air crash | BBC News

No survivors are expected after a plane and an army helicopter crashed in mid-air over Washington DC’s Potomac River, DC Fire and EMS Chief John Donnelly said.

The American Airlines flight was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members when it collided with a Black Hawk helicopter as it approached Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

Officials have said that the focus has switched to recovery as 27 bodies were recovered from the plane, and one from the helicopter, which had three soldiers on board.

American Airlines CEO Robert Isom said: β€œAt this time we don’t know why it collided with the helicopter.”

Officials confirmed Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport will reopen on Thursday at 11:00 local time.
