"It’s very weird. It’s not the sort of project that you sort of, you know, you think is going to get noticed this way because you know, it’s sort of — I’m very much part of the community of music on this one and albeit very famous music. I mean, the joy of it was that it was there being made into this new thing and so I got to have fun with it, but we never really thought it would get to this point. But it’s also such a weird time to be, you know, getting excited about something like this. I mean, and also, I thought — I didn’t realize it was today. I moved and moved my head thinking, yeah, ‘the Academy’s moved the nominations to next week.’ So I’m quite happily sleeping this morning and I got a call from my agent and I was like, ‘What the hell is she calling me for? What could be that urgent?’"

"It’s also that I’m, you know, I’m still evacuated from my home, so I’m staying in my girlfriend’s mother’s back room at the moment on a on a pullout couch."
Reporter: "Oh my goodness."
Powell: "That’s all. I mean, everything in Hollywood is very weird at the moment because so many people have been affected. I mean, I got lucky. I didn’t actually lose my home or my studio in Palisades, but I, you know, you can’t- – we can’t go back in, you know, can’t get back in at all in the moment. We had to and I had to carry on work. So I’m back in another studio. I’m borrowing a studio from Hans at the moment. He’s very kindly let me back into remote control, which is what we are here because I have a — I’m recording very soon on another project so it was a, as we say, an English kick bollock scramble, trying to get get ready for that one. So with all that going on my mind, I’d sort of forgotten all about this stuff."

"I’ve got like, I’ve only got a few weeks left before I go and record ‘How to Train your Dragon.’ I literally when when I got evacuated, we managed to sneak back in and get hard drives and a few little bits and pieces. We couldn’t get much and thankfully and then Hans lent me a room, we’ve got borrowed gear, bought some more gear. So I had to get back up. It only took me about three days to get back up and running because I’m off to London in a few weeks to record."

"We knew it got through to the shortlist which was great. I mean, it was, viable. But you know, you never think — but it’s wonderful. Obviously it’s wonderful. It was a wonderful film to do and, Jon (W. Chu) is extraordinary. I mean how he brought this in."

"About six months before it came out, Jon and I were talking and sort of joking about it coming out in November. You know, what will have – what will have changed? How will America feel? And we kind of both agreed that it would probably be whatever had happened, it would be very good for a film that was this much joy in it to to be landing in that time. And, boy, I think it really did."
