Many feared dead after stampede and crowd crush at India Kumbh Mela Festival site | DW News

In northern India where at least seven people have been reported killed and many more injured in a stampede at the world’s largest religious festival. It happened as tens of thousands of Hindus rushed to bathe at the confluence of the Ganges and Yamuna rivers in on the most significant day of the Maha Kumbh Mela festival. Images from the scene show rescuers trying to help the injured with police trying to manage the crowds. A rapid action force, a special team deployed during crisis situations, has been deployed to help bring the situation under control. This Drone footage gives a sense of how many people are there. Authorities had been expecting a record 100 million devotees to visit the site on Wednesday alone.
