STORYLINE:
Families of Israeli hostages have called on US President Donald Trump to ensure all hostages held in Gaza are released.

Among those appealing to Trump was Simcha Goldin, the father of Hadar Goldin, an Israeli soldier whose body has been held by militants since 2014 despite a public campaign by the family to return his remains.

Families urged the Israeli government to move with the second stage of the ceasefire deal until all the hostages are released, so that the families feel the same joy as the mothers of the three women released last Sunday.

“This is one step within the deal that is very important, and it must be completed to the end, from there to continue with the other stages in the deal, until all the hostages will return," said Ella Ben Ami, daughter of Ohad Ben Ami, a hostage in Gaza.

The ceasefire began Sunday and is supposed to bring calm to war-battered Gaza for at least six weeks and see 33 Hamas-held hostages released in return for hundreds of Palestinians imprisoned by Israel.

On Sunday, the hostages released as part of a ceasefire deal with Hamas were Romi Gonen, 24, Emily Damari, 28, and Doron Steinbrecher, 31.

Israel released 90 Palestinian prisoners in exchange.

On Friday, Israel is expected to receive the names of four hostages to be released.

The war began when Hamas-led militants stormed into Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting around 250.

Around 100 hostages still remain in Gaza, at least a third of whom are believed dead.

The rest have been released, rescued, or their bodies recovered.

Israel’s military campaign has killed over 47,000 Palestinians in Gaza, according to local health authorities, who say women and children make up more than half of the fatalities.

It’s unclear how many of the dead were combatants.

Meanwhile, Israel has launched a major military operation in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin.
