STORYLINE:
A female student was killed and another student was wounded Wednesday in a shooting in a Nashville high school cafeteria, police said.

The 17-year-old shooter, who was also a student at Antioch High School, later shot and killed himself with a handgun, Metro Nashville Police spokesperson Don Aaron said during a news conference. Police identified him as Solomon Henderson.

Police Chief John Drake said the shooter “confronted” a 16-year-old female student in the cafeteria and opened fire, killing her. Police identified her as Josselin Corea Escalante. Drake said police are looking into a motive and whether the students who were shot were targeted.

Down the road from the school, parents and family waited nervously to reunite with the children from the school.
Samantha Dickerson spent three hours waiting for her son, a 14-year-old.
"I had took my son’s phone for that weekend, and I didn’t give it back to him, so I was nervous," Dickerson said. "I was really about to break down. But when I finally got up here and a teacher called me, his English teacher called and told me that he was fine and he was at the school. So I’ve been waiting for about three hours for him."
Kayla Hayes has two children that go to Antioch High School and one of them got a text that a shooting was occurring. She said she’s been concerned about violence at the school for a while.
"But I mean, I’m not surprised that this has happened because the bullying here is just so is so crazy like and they overlook it," said Hayes.
Fonda Abner was waiting on her granddaughter to be released from the school hours after the shooting.
