STORYLINE:
Playing to the mountains, and playing for climate change.
World-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma performed a short concert at the top of the mountains above Davos on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum on Thursday morning.
“Performing Hope for the Glaciers” coincides with the start of the UN International Year of Glacier Preservation.
The goal was to convey the message that the world must avoid a requiem for the world’s glaciers threatened by climate change.
After the performance, he visited climate researchers that have been camping at the top of the mountain this week, to raise awareness of the threat of global heating.
"By camping here, we’re trying to tell the powerful leaders and corporations that have come here to this week at Davos that we are here to bring climate science to the fore," said Mayumi Sato, an ambassador for the Arctic Basecamp non-profit foundation.
