STORYLINE:
Residents in Cuba on Tuesday said they were not surprised by U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to redesignate Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism.

Former President Joe Biden lifted the designation last week, but Trump on Monday reversed the executive order.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel described Trump’s decision as an act of “arrogance and contempt for the truth.”

“It is not surprising. His goal is to continue strengthening the cruel economic war against Cuba for the purpose of domination,” Díaz-Canel said on the social platform X.

Reacting to the news on Tuesday Willian González, who works as a street musician in the capital, Havana, said that from everything he has experienced "Cuba has many flaws but is not capable of supporting terrorism.”

Another Havana resident, Yudit Sayas, said Trump’s decision was just another attempt “to crush us."

Díaz-Canel said that being on the list, along with the U.S. embargo, is one of the reasons behind the “shortages” on the island that are driving people to immigrate to the U.S. territory.
