"The speech was different than I would give it. But he has been elected president and he deserves to give his inaugural address in the way that he chooses. My hope is that between himself and his advisers, he realizes how important our alliances are to global stability, especially how important the relationship between Europe and the United States is to global stability, how important trade is, how across the board tariffs will likely just raise prices on the American people, and in many ways, he was elected to lower the prices on the American people. And so I want to make sure that we give him time with his advisers as he comes out with policy to truly see what they are."

STORYLINE:
As the World Economic Forum’s annual gabfest gets into full swing Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump gave everybody something to talk about with his actions on his first day back in office.
Trump on Monday began erasing Joe Biden’s legacy immediately after taking office as the nation’s 47th president, pardoning nearly all of his supporters who rioted at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, and issuing a blizzard of executive orders that signal his desire to remake American institutions.
He signed orders for increasing border security, designating drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, limiting birthright citizenship, freezing new regulations and establishing a task force for reducing the size of the federal government.
He also signed an executive order directing the United States to again withdraw from the landmark Paris climate agreement, dealing a blow to worldwide efforts to combat global warming and once again distancing the U.S. from its closest allies.
He has since changed that time frame, voicing hope that peace could be negotiated in six months.
