1. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán arriving for news briefing
2. SOUNDBITE (Slovak) Robert Fico, Slovak Prime Minister:
"We also talked about the first steps taken by US President Donald Trump, which are extremely active and will inspire us to a certain extent. On many issues, such as values, I have to say that I share the views of the US president and the prime minister and find common ground here."
3. SOUNDBITE (Slovak) Robert Fico, Slovak Prime Minister:
++OVER WIDE ANGLE++
"The world has completely changed, and our opposition leaders can say whatever they want that we are somehow talking too openly and too freely about the EU and NATO, it is our duty. If we are not prepared for these changes that they are coming, we will end up very badly."
4. SOUNDBITE (Slovak) Robert Fico, Slovak Prime Minister:
"After we have incorporated into the Constitution of the Slovak Republic the definition of marriage as a unique relationship between a man and a woman, we also want to include in the Constitution of the Slovak Republic provisions that will guarantee that there will be only two genders of man and woman."
5. Fico and Orbán
6. SOUNDBITE (Hungarian) Viktor Orbán, Hungarian Prime Minister:
"We will return to the primary path of history; that’s for sure. You have listened to the new US president’s speech yesterday and seen his decisions. He mentioned gender, migration issues and also talked about the war. The new, Western mainstream is pro-peace, pro-family, and anti-migration now."
7. Fico and Orbán
8. SOUNDBITE (Hungarian) Viktor Orbán, Hungarian Prime Minister:
"I also told the prime minister that, in my view, in two parts of the world, leaders do not yet see how quickly everything has changed. One of the places is Brussels. If they continue to pursue their pro-war policy, I’d say it’s time for them to wake up. But Brussels is still on the old path, they need some extra time to adapt to the new situation and the other place where the changes are not taken seriously is Kyiv."
9. Fico and Orbán leaving
STORYLINE:
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán claimed the world had "changed" as they each praised US President Donald Trump’s start to his new term in office.
Fico said he Orbán and Trump shared "common ground" after talks with his Hungarian counterpart in Bratislava.
The two populist prime ministers are also known to be critical of the European Union and are widely considered Russian President Vladimir Putin’s closest partners in the bloc.
Orbán claimed the two places yet to see a global shift in light of Trump’s return were the EU’s administration in Brussels and Ukraine’s capital Kyiv.
