(18 Dec 1978) RR7851A THE GREAT LITERACY EXPERIMENT
The world’s biggest ever literacy drive was launched
in India in October 1978 coinciding with the birthday
anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The aim of the
scheme is to teach the basic skills of reading and
writing to 100 million adults in the next five years.
