"As far as I’m concerned, the performance itself remains largely the same. But yeah, logistically I just have to be prepared to sing indoors. So from, a from a musical and vocal perspective, it’s actually a good thing. I have to say, I was looking forward to seeing 100,000 people spread across the National Mall. So unfortunately I won’t be getting that visual while I perform, but it’s still going to be such a tremendous honor. And, and so all the necessary changes are being made. And I’m sure that at the end of the day, it’ll go off without a hitch."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Christopher Macchio, opera singer:
"Well at the return rally in Butler when he and I exited the stage together, he alluded to, he said, ‘I’ll be seeing you at the inauguration.’ But he didn’t really specify what that meant. So it was only a few weeks ago that one of the top staffers said, ‘I want to be the one to give you this call and tell you that last night the president told me personally that you were his first and only choice to perform the national anthem for the inauguration.’ And so, again, that was just that confirmation was received by me just a few short weeks ago. And I just, I was just overjoyed with gratitude."

STORYLINE:
Opera tenor Christopher Macchio will sing the national anthem at the President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration before a much smaller crowd than he was expecting, a letdown with a silver lining.
The ceremony Monday has been moved indoors because temperatures are set to plummet and make it the coldest Inauguration Day in 40 years. The Capitol Rotunda holds only 600 people, while more than 250,000 guests were ticketed to view the inauguration from around the Capitol grounds.
