STORYLINE:
Dozens of people took to the streets Sunday morning in Gaza’s southern city of Khan Younis to prematurely celebrate an expected cease-fire.
But so far the ceasefire is yet to happen.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Hamas had not lived up to its commitment to provide the names of the three hostages it was set to release later on Sunday in exchange for scores of Palestinian prisoners.
Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, the top Israeli military spokesman, said the army “continues to attack” and would until Hamas complied with the agreement.
Hamas blamed the delay on “technical field reasons.”
Meanwhile, the party of Israel’s hard-line National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said its Cabinet ministers have submitted their resignations in opposition to the ceasefire.
In Khan Younis refugee camp just after 8:30 a.m. when the ceasefire was due to happen, two vehicles carrying Qassam fighters joined the celebration.
Four masked fighters were seen carrying rifles.
People chanted slogans including: “Allah is Great,” and “Oh Saraya, Oh Qassam, no no for surrender,” in reference to Hamas’ Qassam Brigades and Saraya al-Quds, the military arm of the Islamic Jihad militant groups.
